Sometimes I blame my name because I am a curious person. I really love to understand how certain tools are built and I also try to rebuild them using my own understanding. This is what really drives me to keep becoming a better developer because I am always practicing what I learn.
I really don‘t see myself growing old and still sitting behind the screen to code. I really love coding but I look forward to retiring at an early age so that I can spend my time venturing into agriculture and travelling the world with my family and siblings.
I am George Chakama, a Full-Stack Developer with extensive experience working with JavaScript. Throughout my career, my main focus has been building tools that make a positive impact on the communities I serve. Currently, I hold the position of Lead Developer at HearMe, where I am dedicated to enhancing communication and interaction for individuals with speech impairments within various communities.
One of the highlights of my journey was winning the prestigious Tech Innovator of the Year award in 2021. This recognition was a result of my groundbreaking work with HearMe and my commitment to empowering the Mute/Deaf community.
In 2019, I began a blog aimed at helping fellow developers overcome challenges commonly faced in the industry. Sharing my knowledge and experiences has always been important to me, and I have had the opportunity to present at numerous developer gatherings. Notably, in 2021, one of my articles caught the attention of Scrimba and was featured on their Twitter spaces, amplifying its reach and impact. I have also delivered presentations on topics such as Contributing to Open Source and Tackling React-JS bugs.
Beyond my professional endeavors, I passionately dedicate much of my time to volunteering at non-governmental organizations (NGOs), where I manage their online presence and raise awareness as an advocate for individuals with disabilities. It is a cause close to my heart, and I believe in using my skills to create positive change in society.
During moments of leisure, you will often find me practicing poetry or enjoying refreshing jogs with my two beloved dogs. These activities provide me with the balance and inspiration needed to continue my work and fuel my creativity.
